The David Heller Center for
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

The Foundation funds research focused on the cause, diagnosis and potential prevention of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) through the David Heller Center for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy at the Providence Heart Institute.

We are committed to continue funding research as part of our mission to save lives and promote teen heart health. The foundation has provided $400,000 in funding to date.

Recent updates

  • The Center now serves over 400 patients and has expanded clinic hours and staff to meet patient demand. Many new patients were referred by other Providence caregivers — a trend that will likely continue.

  • The Center has completed a MAPLE-HCM clinical drug trial with results presented at a global conference and published in the New England Journal of Medicine. It is participating in two other clinical trials testing the efficacy and long-term safety of new medications to treat HCM.

  • Providence outreach targeting cardiovascular specialists and primary care physicians throughout Oregon has resulted in patients coming to the clinic from the coast, southern Oregon and southwest Washington. These efforts mean more patients are receiving access to groundbreaking clinical trials and personalized care.

ABOUT THE CENTER

The multidisciplinary team at The David Heller Center for Cardiomyopathy provides the most comprehensive and cutting edge care for patients and their families having either a diagnosis of, or concern for HCM. They have assembled a team of physicians and health care professionals from some of the world’s best institutions.

The collective goal is to deliver individually tailored therapies for each of their patients. Since HCM is often a genetically mediated condition, they provide access to genetics testing to patients and their families, if needed. Furthermore, they have access to the national community of HCM specialists and are able to direct family members who do not live locally to their closest reputable HCM center should they require further management.

The Center prides itself in ensuring patients will come away from a consultation empowered by their understanding of HCM. They will be reassured by the knowledge that there is a team of professionals highly trained in the management of their specific condition providing access to the most up to date, evidence based treatments available.
